How I saved $240 at Charlotte Russe!

One thing you can guarantee when you work in a all female salon is that you will defiantly be invited to your fair share of jewelry parties. So since I know my way around a Stella and dot catalog I was excited to find a dead ringer for the Temptest Necklace, one of Stella and Dots best selling necklaces that is actually back ordered till May 16. I was at charolette Russe and found this necklace for only $8. Now I’m not gonna say that the Stella and Dot necklace doesn’t have finer detailing and of course it also includes that really cool brass closure but with a difference in price of $190 I think I can deal!

I also had been dying to get my hands on the renegade cluster bracelet by Stella and dot but when I saw a very similar set of bangles I couldn’t resist. Now I have several pandora bracelets (all silver) and I figured by stacking the gold bracelets with my much more expensive pandoras it would distract the eye anyway. So basically why bother spending $59 on a single bracelet thats going to get lost in the crowd when you can get a fun set for a tenth of the price!

Anyway my thoughts have always been why spend hundreds of dollars on trendy costume jewelry. I would much rather invest in life long gold, silver, diamond, etc piece then a statement necklace for a night out on the town. Now I know it’s hard to deny a close friends jewelry party invite and almost impossible to leave with out purchasing but try to make sure the piece is one of a kind because if it isn’t you never know where it’s going pop up…and with a much lower price tag!

Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray on Thirsty Hair?!?

Bumble and Bumble surf spray is the go to product for sexy beachy waves! But for girls like myself who are lacking a little moisture you might feel like you have difficulty using this product. By adding a few drops of a hair oil such as Bumble and Bumble’s Hairdresers Invisible Oil you quench your hairs thirst before adding the surf spray! image Bumble and bumble also released a shampoo and conditioner to combine with the surf spray conveniently named Surf foam wash and Surf creme rinse! image Great for girls lacking texture or needing a little more body but otherwise I would opt for something a little more hydrating such as Quenching or Creme de Coco! This is a fun product for summer great to enhance your waves, add texture, or give that messy lived in style.

Favorite Hair Product of the Moment

The salon I work at just began carrying Bumble and Bumble and I have to say I am head over heels in love with this product! The mending line is made to repair damaged hair without causing your color to fade! The scent is amazing, like a light perfume. I have medium to thick wavy hair that can be a pain to blow dry but this really helps with the frizz even without an additional styling product! Bumble and Bumble says this product is “for the truly damaged” meant to repair, strengthen, shine, and protect. If you highlight regularly or have any other chemical service done such as perms or relaxers this is defiantly your go to! The line also includes a masque and a mending complex treatment which I am excited to try. However if you do not have chemically treated hair but your hair is dry the mending line has a sister product known as Quenching made for extremely dry hair in need of replenishing moisture. Defiantly give this product a try I’m obsessed!

Better than Sex…Mascara!

With a name like Better than Sex this mascara has to be good right?!? Late last year Too Faced released this new “voluptous volume” mascara and I’ve been dying to give it a try! The wand is rather large and almost hourglass shaped, the tube itself is also bigger then most mascaras I have purchased.image

image Now usually with mascaras I typically just go for the drugstore brands…bad I know but it’s always in a moment of desperation I need a quick fix. There is nothing worse then a dried up clumpy mascara. Anyway I finally got my hands on this amazing product and I love it. I have forever been converted, no more cheap mascara! I don’t have very thick eyelashes so even with light eye makeup (which doesn’t happen often) it makes my eyes pop! I usually apply two coats on the upper lashes alternating one coat on left, one coat on right and then second on left, second on right as to let the first coat dry before applying a second, I feel like this builds lashes cleaner and won’t give you a clumpy application! If you apply mascara to the bottom lashes be sure not to dip the wand back in the tube since it is very large you’ll have plenty of leftover product on the wand to lightly run the tip along the lower lash line. This mascara is $23 so I feel like it falls right in the middle for price point but, worth every penny. And on another note it’s always fun when people ask what mascara your wearing…well it’s Better than Sex of course 😉 Below I added pictures of my lashes with two coats! imageimageimageimage

To Airbrush or not to Airbrush?

Last month i attended the Internation Beauty Show in NYC. Every year there is a booth that draws a massive crowd creating pure chaos and to be honest curosity. Is the booth giving away great free samples or is this the hot product of the year?!? It was easy to spot the chaos this year it was creating congestion throughout one entire end of the show. So my friend (also a make-up junkie) and I decided to venture over. We found ourselves at the Dinar Airbrush booth. Now we had both looked into airbrush make-up but didn’t exactly know what it had to offer that was so much better then your typical cream foundation. However we figured why not watch some of the demos to see not only what the product looked like but how it was used and whether or not it would be something that we could easily figure out. We watch in awe over the results we were seeing. The make-up was flawless, the girls skin looked glowing but at the same time it looked like they had nothing on, they looked naturally flawless…every girls dream! The application seemed simple enough we are both make-up artist and were usually able to pick up new techniques and tricks pretty easily. So we decided to hop in line and treat ourselves to our very own Dinar Airbrush machines! The starter kit cost us roughly $129 for the pro version and this is a the show cost so it is slightly discounted from the regular cost. If you buy from there website the personal pro kit is $199 but more product comes with the kit as well as an instructional DVD. The kit from the show came with the machine itself, 3 different foundation shades you can choose from either the light, medium, dark collection, and several protectors for the machine when traveling. I also seperatly purchased the smokey eye kit which was backordered but shipped to me at a later date. That whole entire day I could not wait to get home to play with my new toy!!! Now i did watch several tutorials to help guide me and also to see how to use and clean the machine properly. The instructions it comes with are fine but I am more of a visual learner so I decided to take the YouTube route. Anyway I have played with the machine quite a bit now and have found foundation application rather easy, it is the eye shadows that I am having trouble with. But i was finding when I decided to wear my airbrush make-up to work I was running late in the morning and when I say late I mean like 20minutes (luckily I arrive to work 30minutes early lol)! So is it worth the extra time every morining?!? To me nothing is more important then sleep so if applying airbrush make-up means waking up 20minutes early then probably not. Don’t get me wrong I love the airbrush look and feel but for work I don’t see enough of a difference to change my morning routine.

However if I am going out or going to a special event I would definatly take the time to apply my airbrush. I feel like for me this may not be my everyday go to but it still is a great piece to have in your make-up collection if you are a make-up lover! Next month I will be attending the NYC pro workshop to get certified so I will keep you posted on tips, tricks, and thoughts!
